I was can hit read speeds of 85-90 MB/sec with a PNY 64 GB SDXC card (P-SDX64U1H-GE) rated at 90 MB/sec read, 60 MB/sec write. I am sure you all can understand why I have such a lowly opinion of them. A few years back I had actually witnessed DHL lob a neighbors medication (glass vial) up a flight of stairs to her door because he was too lazy to walk up the next 8 steps. I've had horrible experience with them in the past so I spent the duration of the wait on shipping crossing my fingers in hope that they didn't manage to destroy it before it got here.

Overall Review: Unfortunately I got the free delivery on it, which was shipped via DHL. I have since replaced it with a matching cord. Luckily, I own about 20 or so micro-usb cables from all the various devices I've purchased over the years. Does everything I need it to do.Ĭons: Nice black device comes with a white cord, not so pleasing to the eye.

Took it out of the package, plugged it into my Kubuntu (8.10+kde4.2) laptop and it worked right away. Seemed to be the only one I couldn't use on it.

Pros: I purchased this item because it supported Duo Pro memory sticks which my laptop does not. Overall Review: I gave this card reader a lower score simply because they do not want to fix a compatibility issue, or at least add a function to disable writing if it detects an incompatible USB chipset, as one day, someone with actual important info will end up connecting it to an incompatible chipset, and lose a lot of important data. Overall, if you want USB 3 speeds and have a motherboard with a EJ168 chipset, then avoid this card reader.

Overall, I am stuck using it on my USB 2 ports, and using a generic USB 3 card reader (tops out at around 40MB/s), but at least it works with the EJ168. Upon contacting transcend about this, it seems that they are uninterested in fixing this compatibility issue as not enough of their customers use that chipset.

If used on other USB 3 ports such as ones made by NEC, it will work fine. Upon performing more test, I found that I was unable to save anything to any type of card, (corrupts data on SD, micro SD, CF, and M2), it simply corrupted everything. (Also supports larger 64GB+ SDXC cards).Ĭons: Upon attempting to use this card reader with the USB 3 ports on my gigabyte 990FXA-UD3 motherboard (which uses the Etron EJ168 chipset) the card reader promptly corrupted all of the data on my SD my SD card (to a point where the system detected the card as an unknown capacity (luckily I did not have any important data on the card). Pros: In testing this card reader, it has great support for a wide range of SD cards, CF cards, and the annoying Sony m2 cards.
